The FitzHerbert C of E Primary School

Opening our eyes to find meaningful happiness – learning, achieving and growing together as a family

The Church

As stated on the Church of England website:

"Church of England schools are established primarily for the communities they are located in. They are inclusive and serve equally those who are of the Christian faith, those of other faiths and those with no faith.

Church schools are recognised for their distinctive Christian ethos and the impact this has on standards and all-round education. The proportions of Church schools regarded as ‘outstanding’ (by Ofsted) is much higher than the national norm and yet the Church schools are fully inclusive."

At FitzHerbert Primary School we are proud of our distinctive Christian character. Our most recent Church Schools Inspection stated:

‘The School through its distinctive Christian character, is outstanding at meeting the needs of all pupils.’

Christian values underpin the life of our school. Within the school the children, staff, governors and parents are all aware of Christian values and their effect on the ethos of the school. Achievement at all levels is celebrated throughout school life. These values are reflected in many areas of school life from developing positive relationships to caring for the environment.

Throughout the school there are Christian symbols displayed and the children contribute to how we celebrate and display our Church heritage. Monthly themes around a Christian theme are displayed on the worship board in the Hall and daily worship sessions refer to these themes and support the ethos of the school. Each class has a prayer that they say at the end of the day and this is a time to reflect on the day.

We regularly participate and lead worship sessions in the Church at festival times. Both children and staff lead these worship sessions by choosing music, writing prayers and sharing ideas for reflection around the festival. Parents and families are warmly welcomed to our Church services, held at the beautiful church of St. Edmunds (only a short walk from our school). We also hold regular celebration assemblies where parents and families are always welcome.
